BCNECOLOGIA CONCEPTUAL MODEL
BCNecologia is a nonprofit public consortium dedicated to rethink cities in key of sustainability by developing the necessary instruments in order to take urban planning and urban strategies in that direction.
The compactness and complexity of the Mediterranean city model makes the transition to a sustainable city more feasible in the age of information.
One of the fundamental characteristics of this conceptual model is its systematic view of the city as a kind of ecosystem in itself. The model that proposes this structure is based on four central principles:
- Compactness - Complexity
- Efficiency - Social Cohesion
TEAM & METHODOLOGY
BCNecologia applies a systemic approach to the management of cities to encourage a more sustainable model. In order to achieve this, the agency provides sustainable solutions related to mobility, energy, waste management, water management, urban planning, biodiversity and social cohesion.
Together with their beneficiaries, BCNecologia identifies problems and their causes, makes proposals, analyzes the technical feasibility, quantifies the results and provides administrative support in managing and implementing projects.
The agency, led by Salvador Rueda, relies on a team of multidisciplinary professionals, which include lawyers, environmentalists, architects, biologists, researchers, economists, physicists, geographers, computer programmers, engineers (industrial, of roads and agriculture), journalists, designers, psychologists and chemists.
The agency counts on various tools that reflect this multidisciplinary composition, such as the Geographical Information Systems (SIG), which can display various scenarios, or simulators, in order to verify and test the hypothesis on different models.
PROJECTS
The projects and research of BCNecologia can be carried out for virtually any city in the world. BCNecologia has done projects for various public institutions, foundations, organizations and companies, both nationally and internationally.
They consider all the spheres of urban ecology: the city model and strategic urban planning; urbanism and the organization of a territory; mobility, accessibility and public space; urban metabolism; urban economy; social cohesion; communication, participation and new technologies.
